Interesting new websites… Are you missing out?

So in my spare time I have stumbled onto some new websites that I have found very interesting and which I enjoyed very much. First off is www.pandora.com, it is an online radio that lets you select an artist or song that you really like and it creates a playlist of songs that are similar to whatever you typed in. You can make as many playlists as you want and if you dont like a song you can simply skip it by saying you do not like it and it wont play it again. Over time you have the best radio station ever because it has taught itself what you like personally.

Second is www.buddyuniversity.com, which is a new personal space web site for college students that allows you a lot of freedom to make your space your own. You can upload videos, music, pictures and there are a bunch of applications that you can simply drag into your profile to make it your own. The best thing about this web site is that for everything you do you earn points, like uploading videos, pictures, etc. You can then use these points that you have accumulated to purchase apparel or iPods, X Boxes, IPhones and many other things. Another built in application is a bookstore to help college students find the books that they need for cheap and you also get points for buying your school books through the website.

I think that finding new web sites is what any good web surfer should aim for and I think that these two websites are quality websites. So check them out and let me know what you think!

Spears Pregnant… Surprise?

While I will say that the news of the younger of the Spears girls being pregnant is a big surprise as far as a news standpoint… I will have to say that it is not all that surprising that it happened to that particular family. The Spears family has been noticeably corrupt ever since Britney started her career as a singer. Anyone who allows their young child to dress as a little “innocent” schoolgirl to break out in their career has to have some sort of problem with their shared mindset.

Now I am not saying that dressing like that is wrong in every situation… by no means am I that sheltered. But I will have to say that this was a tad bit innapropriate in hindsight. This ultimately led to her dressing with less and less clothes until she became this pop culture sex icon who sang catchy songs. I think that this had a profound affect on the eyes of her younger sister on the world and how it works. Britney Spears sold albums through sexual appeal and Jamie Lynn saw that and I think that she had the warped sense of reality that most teens that follow the entertainment world gets, that sex is what everyone does at any age.

Then to add on to the saga that is Britney’s life, she gets married… has a kid… gets divorced… doesnt take care of her kid properly… shaves her head… goes through rehab or some shit like that and now she has came out with another album. I think that Jamie Lynn is unfortunate in the way that she was brought up in the “Hollywood” way, but I do think that her child will be ok. She has made statements that she plans to raise her child in Louisiana and wants to have a “normal” life, whatever that is, and I commend her for that. She seems to have her head on a little straighter then her big sister’s given the situation.

Patriots Vs. Dolphins? Best Christmas Present Ever?

The Patriots have been heralded as the best team that NFL analysts have seen in a long time… maybe even ever. Quite frankly I am sick and tired of hearing all of it. Blah blah blah… Brady this… Brady that… Moss… and so it continues. I do not think that any of this praise should go on until after the entire season is over because it really turns me off from the NFL. Yes, they are a good team… maybe even a great team. But they are beatable just like every other team before them and that is why I would like all the praise to happen after the season. And if they go undefeated then great… good for them! I wont mind hearing all this crap then because that is when I think it should be talked about.

All of this really brings me to my main point. The Dolphins franchise is currently the only one to have a team finish undefeated. The Patriots are well on their way to doing so. The Dolphins look to be one of the worst teams in all of football history this year. And both of these teams play on December 23… right before christmas. Now I know on paper that this pick looks to be obvious and I agree that the Patriots have more then a better chance of rolling over the Dolphins this year. BUT, wouldnt it just be fantastic if the Dolphins were to actually beat the Patriots this year? Thus ending their perfect season and keeping the only undefeated team in Miami? I believe that it would go down as one of the biggest upsets in the NFL ever… period.

Even more interestingly… Miami won their first game of the season Dec. 16th. They beat the Ravens… who incidentally gave the Patriots their closest game of the season. Are the Miami Dolphins coming together at the right time in their season to sneak one pass the unfallable Patriots? I am not for sure, but you better believe that I will be watching that game come December 23.

Baseball Controversy… College Bound?

As you may or may not know, Dec. 13th the Mitchell Report was released for the MLB. This report has addressed the constant issue of steroid use that has plagued the Major Leagues for many years. In the report there were many names given that had some connection to steroid use in the past. The thing that I found interesting with the Major League Commissioners report after the reports initial release was his action for the future. His plan included tightening up all aspects of steroid use through increased rates of random testing for players without a 24 hour notice and harsher penalties.

I personally believe that the underlying issue here is not just the All-Star list of players that have allegedly taken steroids, but the message that this will send to college and high school students worldwide. I think that harsh penalties and strict testing should be steepened in the Major Leauge because it will say to all the high school and college students that it is not okay to cheat by using performance enhancing drugs and it will help with the problem on a large scale for the future. I also think that steroid testing in college should be increased to “nip the problem in the butt” for lack of a better metaphor.
